M2 Competition in TRS Title Hunt as Championship Comes Down to the Wire
2013 Toyota Racing Series (TRS) Team and Drivers Champions, M2 Competition, are in the title hunt as the 2014 Toyota
Racing Series closes in on the final two rounds.
After three rounds of the championship completed, M2 Competition driver Egor Orudzhev from Russia sits in 5th place on
the standings just 34 points behind the series leader, while team mate Steijn Schothorst from The Netherlands sits in
7th place.
Team Principal Mark Pilcher says the young Russian is one of the quickest drivers he’s seen in TRS, but his championship
charge has been hampered by a couple of accidents.
“Egor has certainly got the speed and has shown that with three race victories this year, more than any other driver so
far this season. He’s had a couple of accidents, but he’s still learning, and will be a star of the future,” says
Pilcher.
Schothorst’s speed in 2014 has been hampered by some mechanical misfortune and bad luck but he is still in the title
hunt.
“Steijn won races and got podiums in the final rounds last year, and was the pre season favourite to win the series this
year. He and the team have some work to do, but it is achievable to be within striking distance at the end.”
Young Australian Formula Ford front-runner Macauley Jones has also showed promising pace throughout the first three
rounds.
“Macauley has excellent pace and has qualified as high as fourth. He’s quickly gotten to grips with the car giving good
feedback to the engineers in extracting the best speed from the car.”
Other M2 drivers Gustavo Lima from Brazil and Levin Amweg from Switzerland are using the 2014 TRS season as valuable
seat time and as a stepping stone into this years British F4 and GP3 championships respectively.
Pilcher says his team isn’t quite where they want to be at this stage in the season but is confident of a strong finish.
“We’ve had a little bit of catching up to do so far this season. But our engineering group is strong and we’ll be
looking to secure some strong results over the remaining two rounds.”
“This series has proven time and time again that its championship standings can change dramatically race by race. We
have two drivers poised to make a run at winning the championship. We badly want to defend that #1 crown.”
M2 Competition and the Toyota Racing Series head to the northern Waikato circuit of Hampton Downs this weekend 30 Jan –
2 Feb, before going to the final round at Manfield in Fielding 6-9 February.
