Applications For Jubilee Trust Sought
The Jubilee Trust, a funding body which supports people with a physical disability, is seeking applications for its
General Grants, Education Grants and Educational Scholarships. The trust operates in Northland, Auckland and the Eastern
Bay of Plenty and has extended its next application deadline to 13 February 2014.
The Jubilee Trust is supported by CCS Disability Action and grants over half a million dollars to individuals and
organisations each year. It provides financial support for people with physical disabilities, helping with some of the
extra costs disabled people often experience.
One applicant who recently benefited from the Jubilee Trust’s support is Laura Donnelly (21) who was awarded a $7,500
scholarship to complete her Bachelor of Health Science, Occupational Therapy at AUT University in 2013.
Laura was thrilled to receive the financial boost. “I am so grateful to the Jubilee Trust. The scholarship meant that I
didn’t have to work part-time and I could really focus on my studies, so work and study would have been a challenge.
That was particularly helpful as we had two ten week practical placements in our final year. I’m still waiting for my
final results, but I’m confident that I’ll be graduating in December,” she explains.
Laura has Hemihypertrophy which means both sides of her body grow at different rates. She believes her experience of
disability leaves her very well placed for success in her chosen career and in life. “I think my disability has made me
a better person particularly as I’m more empathetic to others. I’ve had a number of operations during my lifetime, so I
understand how hard it can feel recovering from illness or injury. I loved the idea of a job where I could help give
people better quality of life, so Occupational Therapy is a great fit.”
In addition to education-focused grants the trust supports a broad variety of activities, equipment and adaptations
under its General Grants category.
“Our overall aim is to fund sustainable and meaningful ways for people to remain connected with their family and their
