Family Fun Entertainment to Match on Field Excitement: Hurricanes vs. Blues
The action off the field is expected to be as entertaining as on the field during February’s Super Rugby pre-season game
between the Hurricanes and Blues in Masterton.
Leading in to the main match at 3pm on Saturday, February 1 at Memorial Park, there will be an entertaining programme
designed to appeal to people of all ages, says event manager Rosie Broughton.
“Not only will there be three curtain-raiser events including the unique Sumo Sevens rugby game featuring players over
100 kilograms, but there will be opportunities for fans to win spot prizes and a special chance at half time for people
dressed in their orange Catch a Million Tui T-shirt to win prizes,” says Rosie.
Organisers will officially acknowledge many in the crowd who take the opportunity to dress up for the big game by
awarding a bunch of Tui merchandise and a $250 prize for best dressed individual and best dressed group. Match day
sponsors Printcraft and Wairarapa’s MORE FM will show where their allegiance lies by donning yellow and black.
“There’s no denying who we’re supporting,” says Printcraft general manager Lance Johnson. “We’ve encouraged the team to
go all out at the rugby …it will be a yellow and black zone.”
Like the previous three Super Rugby pre-season games organised by Tui, there will be a gold coin collection on the day
with all monies raised donated to charity. In addition there will be an opportunity for fans to get autographs from
players at the conclusion of the main match.
This should be crowd pleaser for hard core rugby fans or the many children expected to be in the crowd as it will be the
first hit out of the year for both teams with a possible debut for Blues import Benji Marshall, and the clash of former
Hurricanes players Ma'a Nonu and Piri Weepu with their old teammates.
Rosie says with only two weeks to go until kick-off, tickets are selling fast. Game day information and tickets are

Gates open at 12.30pm and the day’s festivities begin at 12.50pm with three Rugby Sevens clashes including one with a
surprise twist. The Super Rugby game kicks off at Tui has teamed up with key match day supporters to make the day
possible including:
Sharpes Stockfeed, PGG Wrightons, Trust House, Print Craft, Norwood, WBRFU,
Cableprice, Wairarapa News and MoreFM.
