Identity Dance Crew Hit Tauranga
NZ Hip Hop Dance Champions, and NZGT finalists IDENTITY Dance Crew are coming to Tauranga from 20-24th of January to share their expertise and passion for dance with aspiring dancers from the BOP community.
A whirlwind 2013 saw IDENTITY take out the National Hip Hop Championships and represent New Zealand at the world Hip Hop Championships in Las Vegas where they brought home the silver medal
in their first ever appearance on the world stage. To achieve this, Identity competed against 67 teams from 40 countries and missed out on first place by a mere 1 /100th of a point.
IDENTITY Dance crew are an Auckland based dance crew who have been a major force in the NZ Hip Hop dance scene since 2008 and have worked hard over the past five years to develop and perfect their own unique style of Hip Hop. The Crew themselves have a broad dance education and experience
with 2 members having completed dance degrees and 5 of the others studying dance at UNITEC and Auckland University . As well as maintaining their commitment to up skilling themselves IDENTITY consistently work to develop young dancers, and are all in demand as teachers, choreographers and mentors all over New Zealand.
One of the unique factors of ID is that it includes the Cesan brother trio with the youngest brother leading the charge. For the well-known Cesan brothers this is coming home.
“All three of us spent our early years in Tauranga and my oldest brother Richie started his Dance Education at The DEC and credits founder Prue Gooch for fostering his love of dance as a young boy. Now with a degree in Dance, a member of the ID world’s crew and the principal tutor for BOYZDANCE2, Richie is looking forward to teaching in the place where he was a student himself. The boys and I can’t wait to spend some time with the dancers in the Tauranga community” says IDentity Dance Crew leader Joshua Cesan.
Identity are travelling to Tauranga with four teams of dancers from Auckland who will be training each morning to prepare for Hip Hop competitions, however each afternoon they will run classes for Bay Of Plenty dancers and teachers in a variety of Hip Hop styles as well as contemporary, lyrical jazz and body percussion.
