Holiday Viewing Gold for More than Just Petrol Heads

When you’ve got three New Zealand motorsport champions suddenly floundering around like fish out of water, you end up with entertainment gold. Or so it turns out. Wynn’s Driver Swap, set to screen on TV3’s CRC Motorsport show at 2.30pm on Sunday, January 5th is one little gem of a program not to be missed these summer holidays.

The team at Production Company Zoomslide were rubbing their hands together in anticipation when Wynn’s approached them about a possible new job back in early 2012. If it came off, this piece was sure to be a ripper. Happily for all concerned, Driver Swap did indeed come together and the end result makes for some seriously entertaining viewing for all the family.

Drivers Jamie McDonald, Andy Booth and Gaz Whiter are all well-known and esteemed champions within their respective motorsport disciplines of Sprint Car, V8 Super Tourer and Drift racing. Each of these men are incredibly confident behind the wheel of their own vehicles, but what would happen if they swapped cars with drivers from another discipline? This was the concept presented to Zoomslide by the drivers’ joint sponsor, Wynn’s.

Jamie, Andy and Gaz all leapt at the opportunity to test their handling skills within each of the very different vehicles. As it happened, it probably took more guts from the men to actually allow a ‘novice’ control of their very well kit-out and highly-tuned babies than it did to put their own egos on the line. These guys love their cars like nobody’s business and the fact that none of the incredibly expensive, high-performance vehicles has insurance certainly helped to heighten the drama of the swaps too.

Of course, trying to line-up the insanely busy schedules of three drivers who race in different seasons was always going to be a logistical nightmare. But the end vision for this piece managed to keep all parties motivated and almost two years after Wynn’s had that initial conversation with Zoomslide, the end product will finally get to be viewed by an audience.

Driver’s Swap provides viewers with a unique glimpse into what can happen when you take three, usually very cool and confident, men out of their comfort zone. The audience is taken on a fun and energy filled journey as Zoomslide manage to capture the drivers’ nerves, excitement and frustration as these superstars give it their very best.

If you’re already a motorsport fan then it’s unlikely you’ll need much convincing to mark this one in the diary. However, even if you’ve never watched a motor race in your life, Wynn’s Driver Swap still makes for great fun viewing. So get prepared grab the kids and settle down with your feet up or set the recorder to capture CRC Motorsport on TV3, 5th January.
