One day, an Englishman, a Samoan, a Rarotongan and a Pakeha walk into a bar.....
From inauspicious beginnings at the Taki Rua Theatre way back In the spring of 1992, fast forward 21 years, and the Roots Foundation Sound System fires up once again, to get deep & dubwise in the dancehall Presenting an extra-special night at Mighty Mighty, featuring the 4 original and founding members of this pioneering club culture collective... a 21st party like no other, where the music comes first, all killer no filler!!
Get ready for an unmissable dance floor excursion.... the original 1992 heavyweight DJ sound system of Mu, Lemon, Koa & Goosebump dust off the dub plates for the Roots Foundations 21st birthday bash...
FEATURING ON THE NIGHT FOR YOUR DANCING PLEASURE...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
DJ MU – AKA Dr Boondigga, our very own South-coast Svengali, the head honcho of Fat Freddys Drop is a pillar of NZ music and is widely regarded as the Phil Spector of the Aotearoa bass sound.
Dr Mu is fresh back from conquering the sweltering 2013 European summer festival circuit with FFD. Boom!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
DJ LEMON – AKA Mr. Rockers Sermon/ Authentic Selection, the demon barber of Cuba Street, tai chi exponent, HT license holder and a man with quite possibly the largest collection of reggae committed to black wax in the Southern Hemisphere – a globally respected roots reggae bibliophile and huge fan of ET (Errol Thompson). The one and only... DJ Danny Lemon!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
DJ KOA – AKA the Aitutaki assassin, ex Clares, The Carpark, Naked Angel, The Sub Club, Cuba Cuba and Bar Bodega….
anyone remember those iconic nightspots? Koa was THE DJ running the musical controls at the very birth of Wellingtons love with electronic bass music as the 80`s morphed into the 1990s, escaped to Denmark for 5 years and now presides with Rhombus, a studio, his Danish/ Kuki family and is still addicted to collecting music...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
DJ GOOSEBUMP – AKA Jean Pilla, agent provocateur – the poor wee lad fell head first into a steaming vat of cosmic musical vibrations as a small child and nothing has ever been the same since. Counts Lee Scratch Perry, Adrian Sherwood, and Mad Professor amongst those on his Xmas card list.
