TAB has Tua at short odds for biggest challenge
David ‘The People’s Champion’ Tua has cut down some tall timber in his time, but none as truly gigantic as Alexander Ustinov, yet the TAB are predicting Tua will knockout the burly Russian as the most likely outcome in Hamilton on Saturday night.
Among the decision options, a Tua knockout is the shortest on the TAB books at $2.30.
Although big men like Ruiz, Rahman and Moorer have felt the Tuaman’s thunder, his latest opponent brings attributes that make those former opponents pale in comparison. Ustinov possesses a nine-inch height advantage, is younger, and is ranked higher by both the IBF and WBA boxing authorities.
But the TAB says David has the goods to bring down ‘Goliath’.
“Few heavyweight boxers are as accustomed to facing larger opponents than David Tua,” says TAB boxing bookie Kieran McAnulty. “He has proven, time and time again, that what he lacks in stature and reach, he makes up for in strength, power and determination. One punch is often all it takes for Tua to obtain victory.”
“We say it’s too close to call. Many pundits are predicting a Ustinov victory, but we think that is centred on overseas-based predictions which tend to underestimate Tua. We aren’t prepared to do that and, judging by the amount of money we have received on Tua, neither are New Zealand punters.”
Hydr8 Zero David v Goliath will be broadcast on SKY Arena from Saturday 7:00pm.
