Art in the Countryside – New Exhibition
On Sunday October 20, just fifty minutes from Auckland, the Red Barn Gallery will host the third series of a group
exhibition titled ‘Off the Main Road.’
Seven artist friends have put together a mixed media-exhibition with bronze, glass, sculptures and paintings, nestled in
the picturesque lakeside of Lake Whangape.
At the home of full-time artist Graeme Hitchcock, the studio invites visitors to bring along the kids and a picnic to
enjoy a lovely day in the country.
“Off the Main Road III is an extension of the works we have always loved to create. Since the last exhibition, we have
all had new experiences and I think this is reflected in the work
“The exhibition features contrasts of colour and simple but playful and statement pieces. There is such a palate of
artwork and we can’t wait to share it”, Graeme says.
The six others joining Graeme in ‘Off The Main Road III’ are Phil Neary and Todd Butterworth with their bronze
sculptures; Karin Barr, Judi Hadfield and Michelle Judge with their glass work; and Jonathan Bowman with his rock
pieces.
The opening Sunday will give visitors the chance to meet the artists and see the intricate processes behind the way some
of the work is created.
Phil and Todd are also owners of the Monument Sculpture Foundry in Auckland, who bring the extensive processes of bronze
work to life.
“The time and delicacy put into some of the pieces is incredible. It’s such a real way of expression and we are mixing
those varied styles” Todd says.
The exhibition will be open daily from Saturday October 20, up to the following weekend.
