Lightfoot stands on podium at Taupo
Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot has taken a clear second place in the UDC V8 Ute series standings after another strong performance
at round four of the series, held at Taupo over the weekend.
Sitting second equal heading into the round, Lightfoot was determined to improve on that position in the freshly rebuilt
Precision Racing Ford Falcon and set about doing so in the best possible fashion, topping the time sheets throughout the
majority of the opening test session before being relegated to second place by a slim two tenths of a second.
Qualifying saw Lightfoot again on the pace as one of only two Utes to drop into the 1 minute 45 second lap bracket to
qualify in second place.
Starting from second, Lightfoot was holding down that spot until a small mistake on lap four saw him drop to third, only
to be promoted to second place on the last lap.
Race two, with a marble draw grid, saw Lightfoot start from fourth and within two laps had moved his way into a
comfortable second place. Despite a safety car period, Lightfoot was largely unchallenged on his way to another solid
second place.
The reverse marble draw format for race three saw Lightfoot starting off grid nine and caught up in some pushing off the
start, causing damage to the front of the Precision Racing Ute, although he was able to salvage a seventh place.
The final race of the weekend saw Lightfoot needing only a fourth placed finish to secure another round podium,
something he achieved with ease.
“I’m absolutely stoked with how the weekend went, especially after all the work that has gone in repairing the Ute after
Pukekohe,” said Lightfoot. “To move into a solid second in the championship is fantastic for us.”
Lightfoot now heads to round five at Hampton Downs on 19-20 October .
