Winners Announced for 2013 Children's Music Awards
Kids heading back to school today may well have a skip in their step after getting a good dose of music over the holidays. The winners of the 2013 Children's Music Awards were announced in Christchurch on Saturday, at the grand final of the Singapore Airlines Starfest.
The winners of the 2013 Children's Music Awards are:
APRA Best Children's Music Song:
'If I Was a Fuzzy Buzzy Bumblebee' by Chanelle Davis
Recorded Music NZ Best Children's Music Album:
'Circus of Fleas' by fleaBITE
What Now Best Children's Music Video:
'It's Not a Monster, It's Me!' by Raymond McGrath
"The songs from the 2013 Children's Music Awards were of an amazingly high standard - I have no doubt that these songs will form a large part of the singing, dancing and laughing soundtracks of New Zealand children's early years. Congratulations to Chanelle and all of the winners" says APRA's Anthony Healey
This year was an exciting year for the Children's Music Awards, which saw the reintroduction of the Recorded Music NZ Tui award for Best Children's Music Album. For this year's winner of the Tui - producer and songwriter Robin Nathan - it was a case of déjà vu, as she was also the winner of the Best Children's Music Album when it was last awarded in 2002.
"Congratulations to fleaBITE for winning this year's Tui for Best Children's Music Album. Music interaction is such a great early development activity and "Circus of Fleas" has the perfect mix of entertainment, originality and intelligence for young kiwis!" says Damian Vaughan, CEO of Recorded Music NZ.
In celebration of this year's awards APRA has released a promotional album of the top entries to the APRA Best Children's Music Song Award. The album will be distributed to schools, libraries and children's media across the country. The album is available as a free download for the general public through until Monday 12th August.
The Children's Music Awards were started by APRA in 2008 with partners What Now and the Christchurch City Council. The re-introduction of the Tui award for Best Children's Music Album is a welcome addition to the awards that are designed to celebrate and foster the children's music industry in New Zealand.
