“Colours of our World” exhibition opening in Napier, featuring the work of world renowned New Zealand photographer Chris McLennan
Hot on the heels of his very successful Auckland exhibition “A Year in the Wild Life of Chris McLennan” (which attracted 150 people through on opening night) New Zealand photographer Chris McLennan announces “Colours of our World”, an exhibit of 27 of his favourite travel images from all corners of the globe.
Whether a serious photography enthusiast and fan of Chris’s work, or dreaming of your own travel adventures and looking for some visual inspiration, or simply interested in art and something fun to do in the school holidays, the “Colours of our World” exhibition opening this month in Napier is a must for all to see.
Chris McLennan, recently announced as a New Zealand Ambassador for top camera brand Nikon, has had an enviable career spanning over 25 years in the photographic industry. Specialising as an international travel photographer - a vocation which has seen him photograph in over 40 different countries to date - Chris is known for his bold and vibrant images from all corners of the globe.
From his striking portrayal of the Huli Wigmen in Papua New Guinea to his artistic capture of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in Alaska – Chris uses incredible colour to provide contrast and depth in his imagery. His technical skills – gained over 25 years as a self-taught professional – are evident in this stunning collection of photos, from his after dark capture in a ‘Cormorant Fisherman’ to the exposure and lighting in his ‘Lone Eskimo Woman’.
In total the exhibition contains 27 striking photos, all presented as 20X28 inch metal prints produced in the US. The prints are created by infusing the image into a high quality sheet of aluminium which is then coated with a clear gloss and mounted onto a second sheet of “sheer” aluminium to create a practical yet visually engaging flush-mount hanging system. The end result is a modern piece of art which is archival, scratch / water resistant and easily cleaned, yet provides an almost luminescent look with the image ‘floating’ out from the wall.
As a collection, these superb quality pieces have previously been exhibited (in full or in part) in the US, Australia, Queenstown, Wanaka and Auckland. They are now looking for their “forever homes” and each of the prints in this exhibit will be offered at the heavily reduced price of NZ$500 (or $595 including freight anywhere in New Zealand) for the duration of the exhibition. A special one-time only opportunity to purchase a unique artwork from one of New Zealand’s most renowned photographers.
The exhibition opens on Thursday the 4th July and will run until the 4th of August. Located at the Photographer’s Gallery in Hawke’s Bay, the prints will be on display during opening hours of 9am to 3pm Tuesday through Saturday (closed Mondays, Sundays and public holidays).
