Dreams Come True for Outstanding Young Wellington Dancers
Fourteen aspiring dancers from the Wellington Dance Academy (formerly Paula Hunt Dance) have been selected from over
1000 entries to perform at the prestigious Dance Proms to be held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on November 3. Only
24 other groups from around the world were announced today in the final line up for the Dance Proms performance.
The Wellington Dance Academy group, with ages ranging from 11-15, was the only group chosen from New Zealand to attend
and will perform a dance to Ave Maria.
Paula Hunt, principal at the Wellington Dance Academy says that the opportunity is a ‘once in a lifetime kind of thing
for these dancers’.
“This is about as big as a dream can get for a young dancer,” says Miss Hunt. “ The Royal Albert Hall is the most
outstanding theatre and to say you’ve danced on the stage there is something these dancers will be telling their
grandchildren. Only a few New Zealand dancers will ever be able to lay claim to that.”
The group will visit the Elmhurst School of Ballet and attend The Royal Ballet’s production of Don Quixote as part of
their travels.
“Having been successful in our application we are now frantically fundraising and seeking sponsorship to enable
everyone to be able to attend. We want every dancer to be able to fulfil this dream now” says Miss Hunt.
