Plenty on during the Grand Final…
The 2013 ANZ Young Farmer Contest Grand Final is host to a number of entertaining and informative events over this
coming week. There are still a few tickets available for the events during the Grand Final (available at www.yougfarmers.co.nz).
Running alongside the Grand Final is the TBfree New Zealand Young Farmers National Conference, and kicking off those
events is the annual Bus Trip. The trip departs from Ellerslie Racecourse 8am Thursday 16th May and visits Eden Park, the Devonport Naval Base, and
includes an Auckland Harbour Cruise and a stop at Aotea Square for the ANZ Young Farmer Contest Official Opening.
Thursday evening will see the CRV Ambreed Chairman’s Awards Dinner at Ellerslie Racecourse. Young Farmers Clubs, volunteers and members will be recognized for their achievements this
year and the annual North Island vs. South Island Debate will also take place, the discussion topic is “New Zealand agriculture is ship shape”. Tickets include a buffet dinner with a cash bar.
The AGMARDT Agri-business Breakfast, Friday 17th May, 7.00am at Soljans Winery in Kumeu, is an event designed to stimulate open discussion on important
issues facing New Zealand’s primary industries. The Agri-Business Breakfast is structured as a forum, where industry
representatives present and explore key issues in order to advance understanding and broaden knowledge of the
agriculture industry.
High profile speakers will be in attendance such as Neville Gibson, from The National Business Review, Drew Chappell,
news producer at Country TV and Vincent Heeringa, publisher at Tangible Media. The discussion topic will be “The role of the media with a focus on Agri-news, Agri-innovation and Agri-business”. Buses will depart from the breakfast and head to the Grand Final Practical Day events at Kumeu Showgrounds, entry is
gold coin donation.
Friday evening is the black-tie ANZ Grand Final Dinner at the Royal NZ Yacht Squadron. Here, after an exhausting day competing in the Practical Day’s challenges, the Grand
Final Contestants will put their rhetoric talents to the test and deliver a convincing speech on a topic specific to
each of them. Tickets include a seated dinner with a cash bar.
The evening of Saturday 18th May is when the real excitement happens.
The Contestants will battle it out during the quick-fire question round of the televised Evening Show. This is the last leg of the Grand Final as the Contestants make their final effort to claim the 2013 Champion title
and impressive prizes worth over $60,000 including $10,000 cash thanks to ANZ, AGMARDT, Lincoln University, Ravensdown,
Silver Fern Farms, Honda, Husqvarna and Vodafone. After the 2013 Champion is announced the Celebration Ball will
commence at SKYCITY.
Tickets for this event include a seated dinner, live-feed broadcast at TVNZ studio 3 and the Celebration Ball at
SKYCITY.
The Evening Show will be televised on TV1 at 10.15pm Saturday 18th and on Heartland Sunday 19th at 8.30pm. It is
estimated that there will be 300,000 viewers for the 33rd televised Grand Final Show of the ANZ Young Farmer Contest –
the Ultimate Rural Challenge.
