The Great Eclectic Jumbo Sale Brings Vintage Treasures To Town.
Vintage treasure hunters will delight in the knowledge that The Great Eclectic Jumble Sale is coming to town next month! Fast becoming a highlight on Wellington’s annual fair calendar, those-in-the-know make
sure they beat the crowds.
Bringing two trucks filled to bursting with vintage clothing, bric-a-brac, vintage fabrics, vintage jewellery,
collectables and, for the first time retro and vintage furniture and home wares, this sale will be bursting at the seams
with an estimated 10,000 pieces of vintage treasure priced from 50 cents to $65.00.
Jumble sale organiser, and owner of Eclectic Antiques in Nelson, Maria Henare is ecstatic to be back in Wellington
bringing with her some very unusual finds “We have an amazing array of vintage collectable at absolute bargain prices
including two vintage 1980’s NZ bus blinds which are in huge demand, and this quite extraordinary taxidermy Cobra
entwined with a ferocious looking stoat which is a bit of an oddity, but someone will absolutely love it!” says Mrs
Henare “This year we are also adding a couture room that caters for those who vintage connoisseurs who are looking for
more unusual quality items.”
With a queue stretching well into the car park, last year’s sale saw keen vintage enthusiasts arrive early clutching
their coffees and braving the wintry cold morning for the coveted first look of the over 10,000 items on display.
Mrs Henare has built up a massive fan base across the country of visitors to her store in Nelson, but her Wellington
fans are easily her favourites “Wellingtonians are so enthusiastic and passionate about vintage. They arrive all decked
out in vintage clothing, and you just know their homes are full of amazing vintage finds. Wellingtonians have an innate
sense of style that is all their own and vintage is a big part of that.”
Vintage enthusiast Vanessa Kirkham of Karori agrees “Maria has a great eye for what we want. I visit the Eclectic stand
at the Antiques Fair over Art Deco Weekend in Napier, and I never miss a Jumble Sale. There is so much treasure and it
is all really really well priced. I always find something unique, and yes I always arrive early to be at the front of
the queue.” Miss Kirkham says with a laugh.
“It was exciting to see the queue in wellington”, Mrs Heanre says, “People were there quite early in the morning.
Vintage shopping is a lot like treasure hunting which is what makes it so unique, and with this sale we bring the
treasures to you, you don’t have to travel the length of the country to find them, they are ready and waiting for you at
fantastic prices in St Anne’s Hall in Newtown.”
The Great Eclectic Jumble Sale, St Anne’s Community Hall at the end of Emmett St, Newtown, Saturday 6th April , 9am-5pm and Sunday April 7 , 9am-3pm.
Maria Henare keeps an eye on the ferocious stoat as it fights a cobra – just one of the many extraordinary vintage
treasures to be found at The Great Eclectic Jumble Sale.
