‘Auckland musician plays a mix of Blues, Jazz, and something.. quite.. unusual’
Written by Nick Swanson
"The Great Hoax' returns to play 'Backbeat' Auckland with 'The Audio Justice’, and 'Paste the Sky' to play a little bit
of blues, jazz, and something quite different and unusual as usual!
Patrons who saw the 'Hoax's last gig at 'The Kings Arms' with 'The Audio Justice' remember the music as something quite
different with the set beginning with sounds of torcher and horror manifesting into a smooth seedy trip hop song
'Conspiracy', which sounds like a mix of 'Portishead', 'Nine inch Nails' and early 80s Goth rock. The next song was an
experimental acid jazz song named 'Bubblewrap universe' with both songs using live electronic soundscapes mixed in with
hoax’s live guitar and vocals. The rest of set contained acoustic renditions of the hoaxes originals mixed in with
covers of 'Radiohead', 'Screaming Jay Hawkins', Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and 'John Lennon'.
The Next gig is due to be played at 'backbeat' on Auckland’s K rd on top of 'The Rock Shop's Guitar store' made famous
by TVNZ, Sony music, and infamous local and international acts.
This gig is planned to be more broader, more funkier, more colourful than the last and is a gig designed to blow your
mind to pieces!,
Starts 8 pm on March 8th at "Backbeat', and only a 5er to get in!
