PRESS RELEASE:
Feel Fabulous And Be Part Of The Pinikilicious Campaign
18 February 2013
The Pinikilicious Organising Committee in association with the Mafutaga Ekalesia So’ofa’atasi Porirua (MESP) are calling all women, young and old in the Porirua and areas nearby to be part of the Pinikilicious campaign, a community outreach program for Pasifika women.
The local campaign “Pinikilicious” aims to pay tribute to being women and to take action on the health and wellbeing of Pasifika women in the Porirua area.
Caroline Mareko, event coordinator and member of the MESP committee says “Pinikilicious is a project closest to our hearts. It unites us as women and helps us fulfill the legacy of our service to our communities by encouraging Pasifika women in our churches to make their health and wellbeing a priority”.
The emphasis of the Pinikilicious campaign is not only to celebrate being a woman but to hopefully improve public awareness of health symptoms for women and encourage earlier diagnosis of any diseases, to achieve better survival outcomes.
Caroline says the campaign is also set to encourage young women to see their GP earlier and talk openly with their grannies, mothers, aunties, nieces, girlfriends about any health problems”.
A key activity for the campaign is the Pinikilicious day this weekend. “We have registered over twenty Pasifika women aged 45 to 69 years for a free breast screening. The screening will start with a breast examination, followed by a consultation with a specialist which will all be provided free. It will also be a day of pampering, sharing talents and stories, singing, dancing, eating, exercising, learning, laughing, crying, loving, worshiping and most importantly valuing the role of women in our families and churches”.
“It goes without saying that several women play an important role in helping shape this event and our sincere appreciation goes to Capital and Coast District Health Board (CCDHB), Catalyst Pacific and Samoa Capital Radio as our main sponsors who are committed to fulfilling our social, religion and health obligations”, said Caroline.
The Pinikilicious event day is held this Saturday, 23 February, 2013 at the E.F.K.S Porirua, 10 Waihemo Street, Waitangirua, Porirua from 9:00am – 3:00pm.
The event organisers are expecting a high turnout to this inaugural event.
