Storytellers are invited to Mix & Mash
Creative Kiwis are invited to participate in a new-look Mix & Mash competition for 2013.
This year, the theme is “The New Storytelling” and it challenges people, groups or entire classrooms to weave new or remixed digital content into an original story.
“Mix & Mash 2013 is all about encouraging people, young and old, to tell amazing stories by reusing the likes of photos, songs, video, text, and data,” says organiser Jane Hornibrook from the National Library of New Zealand.
“Great things can happen when creative and talented Kiwis get their hands on New Zealand open content. Just look at some of the entries from our previous Mix & Mash competitions.
“The programme for 2013 differs from past years: this time, there are three deadlines spread out across the year, so entrants can plan and pace their entries and learn from what others are doing. Rather than a competition, this year’s Mix & Mash is more like a creative journal that publishes choice cuts. There are still Mix & Mash prizes to be won, these will roll throughout 2013 and we have some special awards at the end of the year.”
“We’re particularly pleased to be working with Creative Commons Aotearoa New Zealand to bring Mix & Mash to New Zealanders. Thanks also to the great range of sponsors and supporting partners that are helping make this happen.”
The first window for Mix & Mash 2013 opens today (5 February) and runs until 10 May, with submissions showcased on the Mix & Mash website from later that month.
