Let The Magic Begin
From the moment our first musicians arrived on Saturday the Nelson School Of Music has been resonating with the sound of
wonderful music. New musical friendships are being formed as our artists work together exploring every nuance of the
piece being rehearsed.
The rehearsal process is an in depth dialogue between performers, discussing the composer's intention with each bar,
each note. What was the composer trying to express here, what emotion there? It is this process which leads to the fresh
new interpretations of pieces being performed and has particular efficacy in the environment of collaboration which the
Festival promotes. The rehearsal schedules are tortuous for the musicians.
Our visiting Canadian musicians, the Penderecki String Quartet were in rehearsal just a few hours after landing from
Canada. We invite concert goers to look in on rehearsals to experience this dynamic voyage of discovery.

What To Do In Nelson
Last newsletter we talked about the World Of Wearable Arts being a must see for visitors to Nelson. But there is so much
more to see and do here. Whilst here, you could plan a trip to a winery such as Neudorf or Woollaston Estates, visit
Hoglunds Glass at Appleby, perhaps call into a gallery or two.
Visit Jens Hansen Jewellers, the Design Room or Shine, maybe sit down for coffee at the official Festival cafe 'Cafe
Affair' at the top of Trafalgar Street and look with wonder at our beautiful banner flying off the Nelson Cathedral
tower!
Pack Your Sunhats
The forecast for the coming ten days is looking good overall. Mainly sunny with possible showers either Monday evening
or Tuesday and Wednesday depending on which weather forecast you believe. It will be hot, up to 27 degrees and warmer in
venues. We'll have bottles water for sale at most concerts, but feel free to bring your own.

Bits and Pieces
Tickets are still available for many concerts, but most evening concerts at the Cathedral have sold out or are close to
selling out.
