Women, Hip Hop & Social Change
Peacebuilding requires speaking up about issues we care about. It requires making an effort to consider different
perspectives, and to reflect on our own worldviews. Every individual has a story to tell, and along with it, the power
to inspire others to think, discuss, and create social change. Voices from the Frontlines are first person reports on what is happening around the world, how it impacts women, and how women are building
cultures of peace. We invite you to submit an article with your views and experiences.
This week, we interviewed rapper Lady Essence on her experience breaking into the male-dominated world of hip hop. From Kashmir, we have a moving reflection on sexual assault within patriarchal societies. Finally, from the United States, a woman discusses her daily choice to embrace peace, not fear.
