Fixie Fundriaser
On January the 2nd Andy Bates and friend Chris Kemp are setting off from the top of the North Island, Cape Reinga on a cycle ride which will see them get to the bottom of New Zealand, Bluff to raise money for St John Ambulances. Andy and Chris intend on peddling the 2,000+km’s to Bluff in under 2 weeks.
This ride has been done before, however they thought they would make it more of a challenge and do the ride on a ‘Fixie’. A ‘Fixie’ is a bicycle with one fixed gear meaning they will have to keep peddling the whole time – up and down the hills.
Andy is a 26 year old from Surrey, England who has been living in New Zealand for just over a year. In February Andy cycled nearly 7000km around both the North and South Islands. Chris is a 23 year old Kiwi who has also done a lot of cycling overseas.
To help Andy and Chris achieve their goal of getting to Bluff within 2 weeks they have a friend signed up to feed them, take photos, update progress and be general support person along the way. Bike Barn and Pro Physio have been a huge support by providing bikes and equipment, muscle rubs and sunscreen products.
The ride progress can be found at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Andy-and-Chris-Fixie-Ride-Cape-Reinga-to-Bluff/110408135775045. This also site links through to the St John Ambulance donation page, any donation big or small would be hugely appreciated!
