Winter 2012: Our Far Rockaway Superheroes
We hope our friends, collaborators and supporters are safe, sound and staying warm after Hurricane Sandy. Our thoughts go out to those affected by the storm, especially our friends at the Teen Library in the hard-hit area of Far Rockaway, Queens. Quickly shifting into emergency response mode, the library team has provided much-needed relief, resources and support to hundreds in the community, even when the library was without power. What’s more, they’re continuing to deliver their regular programming for youth in the area, offering consistency and reliability in difficult times. This month, REV- is supporting these efforts by continuing our youth media arts workshop at the Far Rockaway Teen Library. Stay tuned to learn more!
November 29, 2012: REV- Joins Art & Social Justice Delegation on Economics at The White House
REV- joins a cohort of artists, activists, and social justice leaders on a delegation organized by the Nathan Cummings Foundation who will participate in a working meeting with the Obama Administration focused on pressing economic issues, and engage in an off-site group discussion around the opportunity of the moment.
November 30th & December 1, 2012: Coming Soon! by Stephanie Rothenberg
Coming Soon! is a mixed-reality urban walking tour enabled through smart phones and iPads that explores the visible and invisible traces of urban renewal in the West Farms neighborhood of the Bronx. Using the camera of a mobile device, one discovers a series of animated, virtual billboards and texts that create a local narrative on current and future development posing questions around what remains seen and what gets left behind in the effort to revitalize. In this two-day workshop, participants will embark on the tour and conduct on-location research in the area followed by a hands-on tutorial on how to create augmented reality (AR) content based on our research.
November 9-11, 2012: REV-’s PopSquad at Mozilla Festival in London
REV-’s PopSquad is a teen-led program for digital media skill-sharing around Mozilla Popcorn Maker, an open-source tool for creating interactive media on the web. This year, teens from PopSquad traveled to London to participate in and present at the Mozilla Festival, an annual gathering for people interested in learning about – and playing with – the future of the web. Over the course of the festival, PopSquad worked with festival-goers to produce an interactive documentary, “Superheroes of MozFest,” a gripping exposé about a new species of humanoid — the web-maker!

We are artists, advocates, media makers, low-wage workers, immigrants, and youth working to spark the public imagination and accelerate social change. www.rev-it.org
