Hobbit premiere – tips to avoid unexpected (or long) journeys
Much of the Te Aro area of central Wellington will be a no-go zone for through traffic from tonight until Thursday
morning – and motorists and commuters should factor-in extra time to get across and around the city due to road closures
and possible delays.
People heading into town to take part in the premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey are advised to avoid driving if possible, to take public transport or walk or cycle.
To make sure everything runs smoothly at tomorrow’s premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the following roads will be closed to motorists from 9pm tonight, Tuesday 27 November until 5.30am, Thursday 29
November:
• Courtenay Place – Cambridge Terrace to Taranaki Street
• Kent Terrace – Oriental Parade to Elizabeth Street
• Cambridge Terrace – Tennyson Street to Wakefield Street
• Majoribanks Street – Roxburgh Street to Kent Terrace
• Edge Hill
• Alpha Street
• Blair Street
• Allen Street
• Tory Street – Tennyson Street to Wakefield Street
• Forresters Lane
• Holland Street.
Buses and Taxis
All bus routes that usually operate in the closed area will be diverted. Temporary bus stops will be located on
Wakefield Street and Taranaki Street.
Detailed information about the diversions and alternative bus stops will be placed at existing bus stops during the road

During the road closure times, all taxi stands within the road closure area will move to Wakefield Street, Kent Terrace
and Taranaki Street.
