Designer Liz Mitchell Dresses Weta Workshop Luminaries for Hobbit Premiere
Award winning New Zealand designer Liz Mitchell will have more than frocks on the red carpet for The Hobbit Premiere on Wednesday in Wellington with Sir Richard Taylor of Weta Workshop wearing a green velvet suit she made for him when he won the Oscar, complete with maps of Middle Earth on the lining and elvish text embroidered around the outer collar.
His wife Tania Rodger will also be wearing a gown designed by Liz Mitchell. Draped in the Grecian style, it is snakeskin jersey knit with feather trim and Swarovski Tapa motif belt and a draped cocoon shaped 1920’s styled shrug jacket.
“ I have designed for Richard and Tania for some time and with my background in theatre costume design in many areas we share the same aesthetic and it is great pleasure to see my garments on the red carpet for such a glamerous night ,” said Liz Mitchell
A number of other guests will be wearing her garments, some from her archives. Museum of New Zealand Te Papa has Liz Mitchell garments in their collection.
