Castle to Build New Game Worlds
Ever dreamed of creating your own hit gaming titles? Thanks to technological advancements, game development is becoming more accessible and a new Waikato summer workshop series offers participants the chance to take the first step.
In this rare workshop opportunity participants will work with Sean, an educator in the field of CGI since 2004 and Scott Spencer, an international CGI veteran who has made significant contributions to several blockbuster movies and popular video games, in order to build their own 3D game environments.
Sean Castle’s interest in teaching game development started out with his fascination-turned-obsession with video games when he was younger and is now starting his own gaming studio “I wanted the opportunity to make my own games, and it's possible for an enthusiast to self-publish their own hit title - with the right tools and skills of course” says Castle.
Last year the size of the global game market revenue was estimated at $65 billion USD (Reuters) “as we develop our local film industry we’re developing (and importing) expertise in areas which are highly transferable to the video game industry; all the necessary ingredients are here, why not make the most of it?” says Castle.
Sean and Scott’s workshop is one of 20 art, design and technology workshops on offer during [Get] CREATIVE a one week feast of creative summer workshops. This series includes stop-motion animation, screenprinting, photography, contemporary art and even edible garden design “we wanted to design workshops not currently on offer in the Waikato, that let you experiment, and when you pick up the programme and see the variety I think people will see that we’ve created a really cool series” says Project Manager Kat Cox.
Now it’s up to the Waikato to register, and take the opportunity. Register before 30th November for Early Bird rates. Visit www.getcreative2013.co.nz for details.
[Get] CREATIVE is a new project created by Prima Group and the Wintec School of Media Arts with support from the Wintec Foundation.
