Wellington, November 19, 2012 – Fifteen burlesque stars, pin-ups, and comedians are bringing Wellington a very special burlesque cabaret show, the same week when a long-awaited movie premiere and parade fills the city with fantasy fans. That show is “Bare and Back Again: A Burlesque Journey to Middle-Earth.”
Why a Middle-Earth burlesque show? The production team says, “We loved the books and when we saw warriors and elf princesses come to life on the silver screen – hubba hubba! In the cabaret community, many of us are passionate fans, and we put this show together. It’s our way of sharing the fun with our fellow fans, and channelling our crushes on the warriors, heroes, and maidens fair.”
Show organizer Sadie von Scrumptious admits, “People either think the show is completely bizarre – that it goes against the regal primness of the great fantasy classics – or they think it’s hilarious and ask if we’ll have showgirl elves. When we say that, yes, we will have showgirl elves, they ask if we’ve got tickets.” Along with the gorgeous elves, the show includes sultry sword dancers, seductive villains, and happy halflings. There will be a hilarious take on Middle-Earth dating with theatrical vaudevillian Lilly Loca, irreverent boylesque from Clever Hansel, and a cheeky peek at Dwarvish lady-life underground with Wellington’s beloved burlesque teacher, Miss La Belle.
The lovelies of Middle-Earth say that if you’re visiting Wellington from afar, you are especially welcome! Our event features the talent and creativity that make New Zealand such a great place to live, and shows that our natural beauty isn’t just our verdant landscape.
Tickets are on sale now and available from http://www.middleearthburlesque.com.
