Learn flax weaving and support Petone Kindergarten
A one-day flax weaving workshop, to raise funds for Petone Kindergarten, will take place on Sunday 2 December 2012 – in time for participants to create unique Christmas presents.
Twenty places are available on the workshop, which will be run by Selena Shaw and Kristal Warbrick from Forever Flax.
Selena says the workshop will have a relaxed style and will cover the simple weaving techniques used to make flowers and baskets.
"You'll have a great day learning and creating works of art,” Selena said. “No experience is necessary. We'll start from the basics and work our way to more difficult pieces. We'll show you how to harvest harakeke and then use it to create some beautiful pieces".
Selena, whose daughter attends the kindergarten, has been weaving for 11 years and loves the “creativity and individuality” it offers.
Petone Kindergarten, part of Wellington Kindergartens, provides quality pre-school education to more than 70 local children.
