Best-selling American blues singer and multi-Grammy award winner Bonnie Raitt will headline the Cavell Leitch New Zealand Jazz & Blues Festival in Christchurch on April 5.
Bonnie Raitt is an institution in American music. The release of her 19th studio album Slipstream, her biggest Billboard chart debut in almost 20 years, shows her reputation is well deserved.
She has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Blues Hall of Fame, has won nine Grammy Awards and been named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" and "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." Her hit single Something to Talk About, went seven-times platinum. Her music has reached across the generations, inspiring some of today’s hippest artists, including Adele who released a cover of I Can’t Make You Love Me.
Bonnie Raitt’s Christchurch concert on April 5, part of her international Slipstream Tour, headlines the Cavell Leitch New Zealand Jazz & Blues Festival and sees the welcome return of international stars including Christchurch in their touring circuit.
Festival director, Jodi Wright, is ecstatic a musician of Bonnie Raitt’s calibre is going to perform as part of the festival.
"She played to a sold out town hall in 2007 and we’re expecting another great turn out for what promises to be a fantastic show.
“She’s legendary and it’s great Bonnie has agreed to play the festival once again. We couldn’t ask for a better headline act,” Jodi Wright says.
In addition to Bonnie Raitt, the 2013 festival will feature NZ jazz great Nathan Haines, Warren Maxwell, Mary Coughlan, Jennine Bailey, Ariana Tikao and many others.
The 2013 festival will take place in Christchurch April 3-7 and the full programme will be out with the February 8 issue of the Press and online from the end of January www.jazzfestivalnz.com.
