NZRL Monday Night Footy Results - Round 2
While the first half of the U85kg Secondary Schools match between Wesley & Pakuranga Colleges was a relatively quiet one, the second half threw up a few surprises and players to watch. In the first, Pakuranga repeatedly attacked Wesley College's line only to be turned away before Wesley were able to turn their defense into attack and scored a converted try. The game then went from end to end with neither team able to cross before Pakuranga scored a great try out wide to the No. 22 George Vi on the back of an excellent run from the No. 14 Luke Armiger. Armiger then scored their second try intercepting a careless Wesley offload and the score was 8 - 6 to Pakuranga at half time.
Early in the second half Wesley came close to scoring again, but were held up twice over the line. Pakuranga then turned their defense into attack and went on to score another 22 points with two tries to Vi and two to No. 13 Ata Hingano. George Vi, who's step and speed contributed not only to his own hatrick but also to the metres gained by his team is definitely a player to watch, and once again the U85 kg game didn't disappoint.
In the final game of Round Two of the Pirtek National Premiership the Counties Manukau Stingrays took on the Central Vipers (Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Taranaki and Wanganui) at a now very wet Mt Smart Stadium. While the Stingrays ran out convincing winners the Vipers would have been pleased with their three second half tries which indicated a willingness to fight to the end. The Stingrays will host the Wellington Orcas next Monday night in what promises to be a tough match for both teams.
