Final Call For Community Award Nominations
Organisers of the TrustPower Marlborough Community Awards are expecting a last minute rush as the deadline for nominations is getting closer.
Nominations for the TrustPower Marlborough Community Awards close in just over two weeks, on Wednesday 31 August. The TrustPower Community Awards are run in conjunction with the Marlborough District Council to recognise and reward the work of voluntary groups and organisations. So far 37 nominations have been received for 33 voluntary groups and organisations.
Last year organisers received 63 nominations for the Awards and TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Pip Tschudin says they are hoping for a similar result this year.
"There are hundreds of voluntary groups operating in the Marlborough region and the work they do deserves to be recognised and celebrated.
"From the volunteers at the local St John station to the mums and dads who freely give their time to be part of their local sports club, volunteers play a vital role in every part of community life. This is the once-a-year chance to ensure these community superstars get the recognition they deserve," says Mrs Tschudin.
Anyone can nominate a voluntary group or organisation for the TrustPower Marlborough Community Awards - voluntary groups can even nominate themselves. The awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development.
There is more than $5,000 up for grabs for the winners of the Awards, with the Supreme Winner representing the region at the 2011 TrustPower National Community Awards, being held in March 2012.
"It will take just five minutes of your time to nominate a voluntary group for the TrustPower Marlborough Community Awards but it will make a huge difference to the volunteers you are recognising," says Mrs Tschudin.
Nomination Forms for the TrustPower Community Awards are available from the Marlborough District Council offices or service centres or can be downloaded from or completed online at www.trustpower.co.nz/communityawards.
Nominations close on Wednesday 31 August 2011. The Awards will be announced and presented at an Awards function on Wednesday 26 October 2011.
