Survival tips for parents of adolescents
Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll - survival tips for parents of adolescents
How to survive the angst - and celebrate the successes - of parenting adolescents is the topic of a panel discussion at Wakatipu High School this Thursday night (May 26).
PTA chair Alyssandra Skerrett says the informative fundraiser is open to all parents of adolescent boys and girls in the community.
"We often think the issues facing our own families are unique, but talking with the experts, a lot of the issues are in fact shared by many of us. There is a lot of wisdom out there to help us chart these sometimes tumultuous waters and to help guide our teens positively for their future."
Six community experts will be offering their advice and answering questions, which can be left anonymously in boxes at the door for the specific expert to be asked.
Psychologist Annette Fea, career manager Bronwyn Gardiner, lawyer Dale Lloyd, physiotherapist and Pilates instructor Louise Parker, dental surgeon Judy Sim and Dr Kathryn Smith will cover topics from understanding youth, their legal rights and responsibilities and career opportunities, to dental care, physical fitness and sexual behaviour.
Mrs Skerrett said "Survival Tips for Parents of Adolescents" would be held 7- 9 PM on Thursday in the high school drama room. Entry has been kept to $2 to make it affordable for all, "but people are welcome to donate more if they can". Refreshments will also be for sale.
