NZ's finest roll out for Queenstown Auto Extravaganza

New Zealand’s finest roll out for Queenstown Auto Extravaganza

17 January 2011

New Zealand’s finest show cars are rolling out of garages nationwide to help raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation at the Queenstown Auto Extravaganza (February 25-27).

Set to appear at the ‘What’s in your Garage?’ public car show as part of the three-day event programme is a catalogue of premium models, including classic, competition and supercars – all driven into the Wakatipu by their owners.

Organisers are keen to see a broad spectrum of cars on display in the public car show. Current registered cars range from a 1948 Packard Woody (Station Sedan) to a curvy black 1959 Porsche #56 A, an electric blue Lotus Elan Plus 2 from 1970 and a 2007 Mercedes Benz CLK63 AMG are already in the line up.

Early registration for ‘What’s in Your Garage?’ is being encouraged.

“Booking your spot now for this extremely popular event enables us to better manage numbers and display vehicles to their prime advantage,” said Queenstown Auto Extravaganza chairman Miles Wilson. “The 2009 event was hugely popular, and we don’t want too many cars turning up unregistered on the day as they may be disappointed if there’s no room to display.”

The biennial Queenstown Auto Extravaganza, organized to promote awareness and raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, attracts thousands of car enthusiasts for an exciting line up of activities.

Car enthusiasts and collectors are invited to take part and register (www.queenstowncarshow.co.nz) for their car to appear among 350 masterpieces.

The vehicles and their proud owners are coming from as far afield as Canterbury, Otago and Southland.

Activities start on Friday 25 February with a 200-strong Evening Car Cruise to a ‘mystery’ photographic location. The “What’s in your Garage?” outdoor public car show on Saturday 26 takes place alongside Queenstown’s first indoor ‘Salon of Style’ event at the Queenstown Events Centre. A Blues Party Night on Saturday night is followed on Sunday 27 with an ‘Eighth Mile’ Car Sprint racing some of the biggest and fastest cars from the show.

Mr Wilson said an extensive collection of prize possessions would be on show, reflecting the nation’s rich motorsports history and culture.

“The “What’s in your Garage?” public car show is a prime event for anyone passionate about cars, both old and new, to come together and meet like-minded people, share their interest and revel in the atmosphere from the range of events,” he said.

“It gives people the opportunity to contribute their cherished cars for the viewing enjoyment of others. The cars showcased will be from a breadth of eras and styles from as early as the 1920s. To compare their craftsmanship is just fascinating.”

Those wanting to register a car to appear in the “What’s in your Garage?” outdoor public car show can apply online at www.queenstowncarshow.co.nz. All cars and categories are welcome, as well as motorbikes.
