Travel scholarships for Outgames Conference Announced
Wellington 2011 today announced a new scholarship scheme for people from Pacific Island nations to attend the 2nd Asia
Pacific Outgames Human Rights Conference being held in Wellington in March 2011.
“With generous funding from the Kingdom of the Netherlands we are able to provide a limited number of full travel and
registration scholarships to attend the conference,’ said Outgames Conference Convenor, Barry Taylor.
“We already were offering a small number of scholarships for conference registration, but many people from the Pacific
were unable to attend unless they could fund funding to cover travel and accommodation,” said Mr Taylor. “This funding
from the Netherlands government means that not only we can ensure there will be good representation from the Pacific
region at the conference but we can offer more registration scholarships.
Called the Netherlands Fund, the scholarships cover return airfares to Wellington from the applicant’s country of
residence, as well as accommodation, meals and conference registration.
To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants much meet all the following criteria:
1. Be a Pacific Island nation citizen and currently resident in a Pacific Island country
2. Be actively involved in LGBTI human rights or community development work in a Pacific Island country
3. Have the support of a GLBTI or human rights organisation in your country to attend the conference
An application form for the Netherlands Fund scholarship can be downloaded from the Wellington Outgames website www.welingtonoutgames.com
Applications close on 31 December 2010.

2nd Round of Outgames Conference Registration Scholarships
A second round of scholarships to cover the registration fees for the the 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames Human Rights

“The number of applications we received in the first round was less than the number of scholarships we had available,”
said Outgames Conference Convenor, Barry Taylor. “The funding from the Netherlands government has also meant that we can
now offer more registration scholarships”
“The purpose of the scholarships is to ensure that there is a broad representation from the LGBTI communities in the
Asia Pacific region. In particular we are keen to hear from young people and those working at a grassroots level,” said
Mr Taylor.
To apply for a registration scholarship, people need to submit a brief wriiten application outlining their experience in
human rights or community action with LGBTI people; what they hope to gain from participating in the conference and how

betterment of LGBTI peoples.
