FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The future of fashion is in the hands of primary school children
The excitement surrounding the 2010 School’s Trash to Fashion is evident as Peninsula Primary School students prepare their creation for showcasing at the final awards show on September 4.
A class of year one and two students has been hard at work on a project designed by year 5 student, Alex Lake-Smith. Six of the children modelled his design Electro Jellyfish at the primary semi-finals held at their school on June 27.
“We always hold our own show at school before the costumes go away - this gives everyone the chance to be a star” says teacher Barbara Kellerman.
Alex got his inspiration from his early childhood and playing in his paddling pool. He accidently flipped the pool upside down creating the impression of a jellyfish.
The awards teach children how to recycle and reduce waste as well as providing the opportunity for children to showcase their design and creative skills.
“We learnt how to make things out of old trash and we were taught how to sew,” says Electro Jellyfish model, Paige Skinner.
The eager grins of enthusiasm on the faces of the children involved with Alex’s design were unmistakeable, as Electro Jellyfish model, Stella Maaka-Mccrea sums it up, “we are going to be the next big thing”.
