Nab a bargain book at the 2010 Variety Monster Book Fair!

With over 80,000 pre-loved books, games, jigsaw puzzles, DVDs and CDs for sale, the Variety Monster Book Fair held from 29 July – 1 August at Alexandra Park Function Centre, Greenlane is a bargain-hunter’s paradise!

“In the colder months, there’s nothing better than curling up on the couch with a book – prices start from as little as $1, so you can make significant savings at the Variety Monster Book Fair,” says Mary McCutcheon-Walker, coordinator of the A-Z Book Fair Committee, which works tirelessly throughout the year collecting and sortin books for the event which s the only one of its size that categorises books into ove 200 categories.

“We have an extensive range of books including recently released titles, old favourites, and of course, children’s books – it’s an opportunity to buy a book by your favourite author or one that perhaps you wouldn’t normally consider at a discounted price with the knowledge that the money is going to a fantastic cause, Variety – Te Children™s Charity, said Miss McCutcheon-Walker of the charity which is currently celebrating its 20th annivrsary in ew ealand of helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged children to reach their full potental.

“Once again the hours have been extended to allow more time for book-lovers to purchase – opening night is scheduled for Thursday 29th July from 6pm – 10pm and for an entry fee of only $10, buyers will have the first opportunity to view and purchase the bargain books. Entry is free from Friday to Sunday.

“We encourage families to visit the Book Fair on Friday – it will be the perfect day to browse through the 80,000 items without the crowds that are expected over the weekend,” said Mary.

“Funds from the Fair go towards Variety’s Literacy and Communication Programmes, providing grants for books, computers and literacy aides to benefit children nationwide – sales at the 2009 Variety Monster Book Fair exceeded over $120,000 and we are hoping to better this result in 2010.

Variety acknowledges the amazing support of Alexandra Park Function Centre, Four Winds Foundation and the dedication of the A-Z Book Fair Committee.
