MEDIA RELEASE: Feel the love this Christmas with yaks, goats and chickens
Yaks, goats and chickens might be not be at the top of your Christmas list, but for a family in Tibet, India, Sri Lanka,
Ethiopia or China one of these gifts could be a lifesaver - providing food, shelter and transport for a child and family
in need.
Chickens give a family a steady supply of healthy, nutritious eggs for their children to enjoy and produce enough to
sell at the local market to bring in an income. Yaks provide milk, wool for knitting and even help with ploughing fields
and transportation while their dung is used as fuel for fires.
These are just some of the unusual gifts on offer from Save the Children’s Wish List. Other gifts include a year’s
supply of eggs, tree saplings, bicycles so children can get to school, footballs and netballs so children can play,

All gifts purchased from Save the Children’s Wish List are delivered directly to a child and their community in some of
the poorest places in the world – and really do bring the joy of Christmas.
“On behalf of all the students in my school, I would like to say tens and thousands of thanks for providing yak milk for
our breakfast. My family can’t afford milk so this is my very first time to have milk for breakfast. At school we have
very plain food but we are all excited as we now have milk and will be getting meat and yak ῢutter very soon," says So
Choe, MarGyang Primary School, Tibet, one of the recipients from last year™s Christmas Wish List.

“We designed the Wish List after asking communities around the globe what they needed. When you buy a Yak for a child
and its community, your money pays for that Yak, rather than going into a general fund.”
