Steamer Wharf lays on celebrations for Winter Games launch night

Queenstown’s Steamer Wharf will join in celebrations for the launch of the 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games with a family-friendly after-party this Friday (August 21).

After the opening ceremony everyone is invited to continue the celebrations at Steamer Wharf, Queenstown’s premier dining and entertainment destination, with live music and food stalls in the Steamer Wharf atrium from 5pm to 10.30pm.

A range of food and drink stalls will be set up inside the building which will sell everything from fish and chips through to pizza breads and garlic prawns and alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments.  Popular Queenstown bands the GCs and The Lynch Mob will entertain the crowd from an elevated stage.

Steamer Wharf Marketing Manager Jo Smith says the entertainment and different dining options offered by the 14 bars and restaurants will create a fun night out for all the family.

“With the Winter Games set to be the biggest event in the Southern Hemisphere this winter, we’re looking forward to welcoming the crowds and helping them have a good time.”

All Steamer Wharf bars and restaurants will also be operating as normal during the celebrations.

The 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games Opening Ceremony party kicks off at 1pm with bands Mutz Nutz and Cartell performing in Earnslaw Park.

At 4pm the official ceremony gets underway with a powhiri by Ngai Tahu.  This is followed by the spectacular arrival of local schoolchildren on Kawarau Jet boats bearing the flags of the participating countries.

Throughout the afternoon, The Good Food Company will serve hot lamb rolls, seafood chowder and baking and The Yacht Club Bar will serve beer, wine and coffee from Lunar Bars (inflatable bars) in Earnslaw Park.
