A new film production is now underway in Christchurch called ‘A Dream of Dark Colours’, several scenes from the feature script are being filmed in order to show, entice and encourage investment into the feature itself.
The film ‘A Dream of Dark Colours’ is based on the novel ‘The Trial’ by Czech author Franz Kafka. For director Shaun Garea (whose previous work has travelled around the world to great reviews and has been supported and promoted by US music label Ipecac Recordings in the past) this is the ‘perfect opportunity to showcase the skills of local talent and crew to an international audience’. Co-producer on the project internationally acclaimed artist Keith Morant (who just received the President of the Republics medal in Southern Italy this year and who has a presence at the Venice Biennale thanks to Manhattan Arts International) is fully behind this project and after this ‘presentation of scenes’ has been put together is holding a joint exhibition with Garea at Bryce Art Gallery in Christchurch on August 16th which will feature this ‘presentation’ and an entire exhibit of Morants work based around Kafka’s work and ‘The Trial’.
Scoring the piece will be 'Honoured Artist of the Ukraine' Anatoly Zelinsky whose work with a sole viola will closely follow the main protagonist ‘Joseph K’ and in effect perform and 'act' with him in a way that is rarely seen in film.
After the show Morant is taking the presentation with him to Vancouver, Manhattan and Ferrara generating buzz to be back in NZ for December. In the presentation thus far are local actors Charles Grubb (as Joseph K), Janina Matthewson (Leni), Jill Roberts (Ushers Wife), Grant Edgar (Magistrate), Adam Jones (Prison Chaplain) and US born but residing now in Christchurch actor and performer Stig Eldred (Advocate Huld) whose film and television credits include Dick Tracey, CSI NY, King Kong, Hercules, Xena and more...
With an experienced and internationally acclaimed group of filmmakers, actors, musicians and based on a literary classic that is regarded by many as ‘one of the most important novels of modern times, the voice of the 20th century!’ A Dream of Dark Colours and its production is prepared to set the bar for innovative, challenging and intriguing independent film shot in NZ. Far from the cries of zombie splatter fests this film will showcase NZ talent in a sophisticated and intellectual way that will present film as an art form not solely as entertainment.
Garea and Morant are also looking for people interested in Kafka, and film to contact them and help 'spread the word' about the project locally. Please visit www.shaungarea.com or www.keithmorant.com for more details. Or contact: info[at]shaungarea.com
