Official New Zealand Top 40 premieres Saturday nights

Irish supergroup U2 end a four-year plus sabbatical with their album No Line On The Horizon and score themselves another
New Zealand #1. It becomes both their 13th #1 album and their 13th to open in the top spot.
It’s the quartets 17th chart album here. The set moves more units than any other title in a single week so far this
year. December 2006 was the last time Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullens Jr last graced the summit, when
the compilation 18 Singles led for four frames.
It makes U2 far and away the most capped albums act in the history of the Official New Zealand Music Chart, their
closest competitor being Pink Floyd with a total of nine #1 albums.
Get On Your Boots, the lead single from No Line, made #20 earlier in the year and was the group’s 39th hit single. Now
the title track on the album is also gaining traction and may well give them a 40th.
Devolo Denies Snoop
Tongan-born Aucklander Devolo denies Snoop Dogg a 19th New Zealand chart appearance with a little help from The Pussycat
Dolls. The version of Bottle Pop on the Doll Domination album released in other territories features Snoop providing
the guest vocals, but in New Zealand the mix features Deceptikonz member Devolo.
It gives Devolo a follow-up hit from his Too Shy Top 10er last year.
As for the PCDs it gives the group, who play Vector in May, a ninth hit here. They slam-dunked a straight four-in-a-row
#1 streak with their first charters here.
Amici Man
Kiwi Geoff Sewell, the man behind Amici Forever opera band, returned to the UK last week after a summer in New Zealand,
and as he leaves he provides his local music distributor Ode with its first ever #1 on the Official New Zealand Music
Charts. The DVD Live In Concert by Geoff and Incognito was recorded during the Wellington leg of their February tour.
Now it betters all-comers to be the #1 selling music DVD in the country. It also sells gold, the same week his Believe
album strikes platinum.

#25 Bow Wow featuring Johnta Austin - You Can Get It All
He was ‘Lil’ in 2001 when he introduced himself via Bow Wow (That’s My Name) (#17). Now Shad Moss is simply known as
Bow Wow and is working again with three-time collaborator Johnta Austin. The Twenty-one-year-old had Johnta and T-Pain
join him on his 2007 track Outta My System (#7) Now Bow Wow brings Johnta back on board for his latest tune You Can Get
It All at #25.
#27 Kings Of Leon - Revelry
Kings Of Leon’s Only By The Night ends its second top run, slipping back to #3 after 29 straight weeks in the Top10.
Not that this will worry the soon-to-be visitors, as Revelry gives them a third hit from the album, fresh at #27 and a
fifth in all.

#5 Annie Lennox - The Collection
Scots chanteuse Annie Lennox’s hit disc compiles tracks from her three previous solo works along with new recordings.
The Collection is also one of her highest solo debuts. Seventeen years back Diva (#6) marked Annie’s solo arrival,
while 1995’s Medusa (#5) shares highest-place honours with the new album. Her body of work, including Eurythmics, now
tallies 20 hit singles and nine hit albums.
#16 Sola Rosa - Get It Together
Local act Sola Rosa lands a fourth chart album this week. Get It Together ends Andrew Spraggon’s three-year recording
process and returns him to the New Zealand Charts with a joint highest entry and peak point. The #16 ranking places it
above 2001’s #21 Solarised, 2003’s #33 Haunted Out-Takes and 2005’s #18 Moves On.
#19 Buddy Holly And The Crickets - The Very Best Of
Early February 2009 was the 50th anniversary of the death of 22-year-old Buddy Holly. The young musician died in a
plane crash on an aircraft named ‘American Pie’. Don McLean lamented Buddy’s loss with his 1972 #1 named after the
plane. Five decades on, Charles Hardin Holley and his former band The Crickets land their highest charting album here.
The Very Best Of opens at #19 bettering both former chart-sets here – 1991’s #24 True Love Ways and 1993’s Words Of
Love.
#26 Don McGlashan & the Seven Sisters - Marvellous Year
In the ‘80s it was Blam Blam Blam, in the ‘90s The Muttonbirds and in the 00s solo. Don McGlashan, the Aucklander
responsible for several movie soundtracks, including No.2 and the recent Dean Spanley, lands his second solo hit album.
His other previous solo charter Warm Hand made #11 in May 2006. The highest-placed McGlashan project to date was The
Muttonbirds self-titled 1992 #2 debut.
#39 Metro Station - Metro Station
Finally after last year’s two hits, Shake It (#9) and Kelsey (#25), the self-titled debut Metro Station set sneaks into
the Albums list at #39. The Trace Cyrus-led four-piece can definitely say “thank you” to the recently wrapped Edge
Summer Jam 2009, which saw them perform live throughout the country, for renewed interest in the release.
