Whanganui UCOL staff and students have taken up their second UCOL Food Bank Challenge of 2008.
Following on from the success of the first Food Bank Challenge, Whanganui UCOL staff felt that a second one around
Christmas time would be helpful to families that struggle financially at this time of year.
Whanganui UCOL Administration Assistant and organiser of the challenge, Petrina Clark says, “Our community is important
to us and we want to show that we care. As busy as staff and students are here at UCOL with exhibitions and wrapping up
the end of the academic year, they have still managed to think of others.”
Whanganui UCOL Campus Librarian, Coral Hanna says, “UCOL students have been very generous as a result of the John W
Scott Learning Hub offering students the chance to clear library fines by taking part in the ‘Can that Fine’ initiative.
We are pleased to support the Food Bank and very proud of our students, as many elected to pay their fine as well as
contributing.”
“We feel it is important to integrate the Food Bank Challenges into our UCOL culture, acknowledging the financial
hardship many families face, especially at Christmas time” says Petrina.
