The 2009 Weet-Bix Tryathlon series is now open for entry and Kiwi kids aged 7 to 15 years are invited to register for their local event.
The 2009 Series will feature 11 events across New Zealand, kicking off with Hamilton on 8 February and concluding with New Plymouth on 3 April (see www.weetbix.co.nz for full details and dates).
Weet-Bix Senior Brand Manager, Tanne Andrews, says the Weet-Bix Tryathlon is suitable for children of all levels of sporting ability as it focuses on encouraging kids to participate, have fun and do their best.
“The Weet-Bix Tryathlon is all about kids getting out there and giving it a go while having a fun day out with their friends and families,” says Mr Andrews.
“For the 2009 series we have expanded the age group of participants to include seven year olds for the first time, allowing even more Kiwi kids to enjoy the amazing Weet-Bix Tryathlon experience.”
“The events also give children the chance to meet and be inspired by their sporting heroes such as Hamish Carter, Debbie Tanner, Valerie Vili and the Evers-Swindell Twins.”
Mr Andrews says that ensuring kids have a safe and enjoyable experience is a top priority for the Weet-Bix Tryathlon team.
“The events are well organised, with safety marshals and support crew working hard to ensure a stress-free experience for both kids and parents,” says Mr Andrews.
Kiwi kids can enter the Weet-Bix Tryathlon as individuals, or in a team of two or three. Each event has a limited number of places available, so schools and individuals who want to be involved should get in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
A great Earlybird discount of 20% off the event entry fee is available to those who register two calendar months before their event. Discounts are also offered when two or more children from the same family register. The registration fee includes entry into the event plus a race pack including a race T-shirt, a swim cap for all swimmers, a completion certificate and a medal.
To ensure even more Kiwi Kids can take part in the Weet-Bix Tryathlon and Go for Gold, Weet-Bix has set up the Weet-Bix Tryathlon Foundation. Teachers and community leaders can apply for support from the Foundation on behalf of a child between the ages of 7 to 15.
The Weet-Bix Tryathlon Foundation provides worthy nominees with a subsidy or complete funding of Weet-Bix Tryathlon entry fees, as well as a subsidy or complete funding of necessary equipment to complete the event.
Over the past 17 years more than 170,000 New Zealand children have taken part in a Weet-Bix Tryathlon event.
Registrations for the 2009 Weet-Bix Tryathlon Series and nominations for Weet-Bix Tryathlon Foundation can be completed online at www.weetbix.co.nz. A hotline number has also been set up for those who don’t have access to the internet – 09 625 0722.
