BLINKERS & SPURS
Saddle up for love, gun-slingers and Patti Smith…
When Blinkers was first performed during this year's Wellington Fringe Festival it caused a sensation - immediately being hailed by
audiences and critics as the most irresistible devised work to emerge in years. After successful seasons in Wellington,
Blenheim, Palmerston North, Auckland and Melbourne, this delightfully odd love story returns home with its companion
piece Spurs. Blinkers & Spurs is riding into town for four nights only at BATS : 3-6th Dec, 6.30pm.
Two high-paced two-handers; A Rock n Roll Romance and a Way our western - two funny and moving stories that follow the
first time encounters of four extraordinary strangers. In Blinkers, the walls are brought crashing down between two seemingly disparate neighbours: Amy, a slovenly punk rock fantasist and
Monty, a fastidious librarian obsessed with horses. And In Spurs the audience is taken to the Wild West of America, where a Cowboy on the run has a strange and fateful exchange with a
mysterious Indian.
Written and performed by Natalie Medlock (Arcadia) and Dan Musgrove (Angels in America, Antigone) Blinkers and Spurs Transports the audience from the Domestic to the Epic ,"it is an astute observation on the foibles of human nature"(- Dom Post), revealing the essence and cost of companionship
"Its about being human, the bitter-sweet perfection in our absurd existence. It's the mystery of life that we want to
celebrate" Natalie Medlock
Musgrove agrees, -"It's a peep hole into our absurd idiosyncrasies; A microscope for the irony of our everyday existence, it doesn't
matter whether you're a librarian or a cowboy. We are strange lonely creatures and we need other strange lonely
creatures to survive - so let's celebrate that and laugh!"
Blinkers is directed by acclaimed actress and director Sophie Roberts (MR. Marmalade, Jeff Koons ,Angels in America, A Streetcar Named Desire, Antigone). Spurs is directed by the incomparable new theatre talent, Laurel Devenie (Three Sisters, Othello, The Graduate, The Tempest).
