New Season Shows 2009 - On Maori Television
Maori Television is pleased to confirm its new season line up for 2009.
Next year will see the return of popular established shows such as Hyundai CODE (sports entertainment), Native Affairs
(current affairs), Warrant of Fitness (health), Kete Aronui (arts), Marae DIY(reality), Pukana (children), Pukoro
(children), Toa o Aotearoa (reality), Homai Te Pakipaki (music), Kai Time on the Road (food) and Hunting Aotearoa
(reality).
The indigenous channel will also broadcast what have become signature shows on important national days: Kotahi Te Ra –
Waitangi Day 2009, and ANZAC Day.
The New Migration, a show about Maori returning to their tribal roots, and Tatai Hono, in which Maori research their
genealogies, both return for new series. Ma Tatou goes on the road to track down iwi events going on around the country,
from sports to news to entertainment. And sports will be the winner again with another season of sports chat shows, Boil
Up – Reheated and Te Pae Hihiri.
New shows to premiere in 2009 include Toku Reo – an exciting new programme for reo Maori language learners, based on the
highly-regarded learning module developed and used by Auckland University of Technology.
Another new programme on the horizon is Phunk Nation, which features successful dance crew Prestige as they take a
heartland tour of the nation. Ko Tawa is a new series featuring the incredible Maori taonga held in Gilbert Mair’s
collection, while 411 explores the fascinating world of technology at home and abroad.
Documentaries planned include such subjects as composer Ngoi Pewhairangi, ‘Aunty’ Mabel Raukawa and William Rhodes
Moorehouse, of English and Maori descent and the first airman to receive the Victoria Cross.
