Eveready Powers Up Community Safety For Guy Fawkes
Guy Fawkes celebrations are set to dazzle our skies on Wednesday, 5 November.
While attendance at public Guy Fawkes displays is encouraged, Eveready is urging Kiwis who are hosting their own back
garden show to put safety first.
Eveready’s Guy Fawkes Safety Tips:
• Only one person should be in charge of a fire works display – if that’s you, make sure you take all the necessary
precautions.
• Read and follow all warnings and instructions on fireworks. Read them with a torch and check you have spare batteries
on standby.
• Point fireworks to the stars, not your mates.
• Never try to relight fireworks that have not fully functioned properly.
• Never allow children to ignite or play with fireworks.
• Always use fireworks and sparklers outdoors.
• Light in a wide open area away from anything that could catch fire. Only light fireworks on a smooth flat surface away
from the house, dry grass and leaves, and flammable materials.
• Keep two buckets of water or a hose nearby in case of a fire or firework malfunction.
• Keep pets indoors.
• Did you know that sparklers get five times hotter than cooking oil? Sparklers can be extremely dangerous and should
never be seen as a safer alternative. Sparklers are not toys and should never be given to a child under five and never
be used unsupervised by an adult.
• Keep all unlit fireworks in their box or bag until you light them.
• Burns need water for 20 minutes.
When stocking up on torch batteries for reading fireworks’ instructions, help your local school by collecting Eveready
barcodes from torches and battery packs. Send in the barcodes and you could win $10,000 worth of computer equipment for
your school of choice. The school that sends in the most Eveready barcodes per pupil will walk away with the computers,
so every school has an equal shot at winning.
