Media Notice – New Book Challenges Views on Aging:
Does life begin at the half way mark!
If 40 is the new 30, then according to a great old party song from the 70s, life must now begin at 50! A new book by
John Shackleton focuses on the many ways to not only reach 100, but to have a really great time getting there. It all
comes down to getting off the couch and moving a bit more, but as he points out in chapter 3, if some marathon runners
and mountain climbers are only just taking up their sport post retirement then what excuses do the rest of us have for
not getting the most out of life – at any age?
This book explains all the reasons for becoming healthy, fit and having considerably more energy and vitality so that
living a long and very enjoyable life, well into our old age is not only achievable, but should become a normal
expectation for all of us. John also explains in simple terms, nutrition, dieting, fitness expectations, and even how to
get started if “exercise was never your thing”.
John was training for national level swimming in his teens, but stopped swimming competitively as a young man and turned
instead to studying sport psychology. Returning to the pool to train for the Masters Games in Italy in 2004, he was soon
breaking his own personal best records from many years ago at the age of 50. While coaching many champion athletes, John
studied what it takes to become and stay motivated. This also led a very successful career as a professional speaker in
Europe, the UK and Australasia, and is ranked among the top 5% in the world.
John emigrated to NZ in 2003 to ‘semi-retire’ after many successful years coaching other top performers in the corporate
and sports world, and now travels the southern hemisphere sharing his message that age is really just a state of mind
after all.
Several thousand copies have already been ordered before the official launch date, and Life is for Living will be a
featured title at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October.
