New Zealand Alpine Club to host NZ’s own mountain film festival
The Auckland Section of the New Zealand Alpine Club is to host the NZ Mountain Film Festival which began in Wanaka six years ago.
Date:              Wednesday 22 October 2008, 7.30pm
Location:      Lecture Theatre 439, Auckland University Engineering Building, Symonds Street, Auckland
The programme includes an exhilarating re-enactment of the very first Coast to Coast.  Two adventurous Kiwis drag, lug and paddle heavy wooden canoes from west to east duplicating a journey first made in 1899.
In Kamchatka, Russia, the grizzly bears are renowned.  A Canadian conservationist’s builds a risky connection with these dangerous animals in this award winning documentary.
In ‘The Beckoning Silence’, Joe Simpson tells the story of climber Tony Kurz’s heroic battle for survival on Eiger. In this gripping, action-packed adventure film-with-a-difference, Simpson finally confronts his demons on the Eiger’s north face and rediscovers the thrill of the climb.
