Wendy houses built by Olympic athletes for charity

Published: Tue 7 Oct 2008 10:27 AM
Wendy houses built by NZ Olympic athletes are now being auctioned off on Trademe to raise money for Habitat for Humanity
Noel Leeming is the principal sponsor of Habitat For Humanity which is a global charity that helps struggling families take real steps towards home ownership. Noel Leeming has already built eleven houses this year and is committed to building another 20 houses in NZ.
Noel Leeming’s chosen charity is Habitat For Humanity and today they teamed up with Ian Jones (Former All Black legend), Dan Buckingham (New Zealand wheelchair Rugby Captain), Nicky Coles (Rowing), James Dolphin (Sprinter) and Steven Ferguson (Kayak) and challenged them to build and design their very own Wendy House to help raise funds for the charity.
Habitat For Humanity resonates well with Kiwis as it is a hand-up not a hand-out type of charity. Habitat houses are sold to people at no profit and are financed with affordable, not for profit loans. Families own their home and pay for them through a low cost mortgage and have to invest at least 500 hours of their own labour called "sweat equity", into building their homes and the homes of others.

The auction has just gone live and the houses will be available online until October 13th
