The Ferrari F430 confirmed its domination of the FIA GT2 World Championship at the weekend (5 October 2008) in France with the AF Corse Ferrari Team taking the team prize – for the third successive year – and its drivers Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander taking the drivers’ title, all with two rounds to spare.
“It's been a brilliant year. It's been great racing with Toni,” Bruni said. “Last year I missed the title by a few points. So this year, with Toni, he helped me to get back the points I lost. We've had some fantastic racing. I don't have the words. It's been a special year for me. I have to thank the guys who work with me, with AF Corse, with. Ferrari, the mechanics...I've learnt so much from everybody.”
All the crew of the number 50 AF Corse Ferrari 430 GT2 car needed to do at the Nogaro track was to finish ahead of the number 77 Ferrari F430 of Malucelli and Ruberti in order to place the 2008 GT2 Drivers title firmly in their hands. This they proceeded to do, with a fourth-place finish at the line, moving up to third following a drive through penalty for another car. AF Corse Ferrari cannot be beaten in the Teams’ title chase, and therefore claimed their third successive title after another fantastic year. In the team title chase, Ferrari teams fill the top three places and the AF Corse Ferrari team can boast at having more than twice the points of the forth placed Porsche team.
