winning works at Galatos including stunning sound composition by Von Spar, C-Schulz and acoustic artwork by Barry
Bermange.

Christine Webster
MIC is privileged to welcome the return of Christine Webster, one of New Zealand’s most prodigious and well-respected
talents working in photography and video. Christine Webster is exhibiting ‘Le Dossier’, a deeply evocative and
erotically charged rumination on cultural mores as they relate to sexuality as well as a sophisticated critique of the
role of representation in both maintaining and challenging culturally sanctioned categories of decency. A new version of
the video installation ‘Blindfield’ is being shown alongside ‘Le Dossier’ and explores the role of the individual in
relation to structures of power. Webster is also presenting her latest multi-screen video and sound installation
‘ViGil’, which examines issues around desire and vulnerability, intimacy and control amongst various heterosexual,
bi-sexual, gay and asexual participants.

atmos: weather as media is an exhibition of air, sun, clouds, and storms. The exhibition presents a selection of
international and New Zealand artists, including Douglas Bagnall (NZ), Lisa Benson (NZ), Corby and Baily (UK), Jerome
Knebusch (Fr-Ger), Hoon Li(NZ-Kr), Andrea Polli(USA), Janine Randerson (NZ), and Cameron Robbins (Aus); whose work
incorporates aspects of the weather directly into their practices, drawing attention to the agency of unpredictable
natural phenomena. These are artists working at the borders of science, technology and ecology: some use weather in
their art-making process, some simulate atmospheres, while others approach weather allegorically. At a time of
ecological stress, their mediations in weather become ciphers for dialogue, critique, and transformation.

PERFORMING ENVIRONMENTS CONFERENCE

MIC Toi Rerehiko and AUT University present Performing Environments in association with the exhibition atmos: weather as
media. The conference coincides with the launch of CoLab, a new transdisciplinary research and development centre led by
collaborative partners AUT University and MIC Toi Rerehiko. CoLab aims to become a national centre of excellence in the
development and use of new technologies for creativity, communication and innovation. This conference will engage with
critical aspects of art and technology projects and will feature artists, researchers and curators involved in both
CoLab and the atmos: weather as media exhibition.
