Maori Television follows the best emerging rugby league talent around the motu through this competition, held in August
and September. Taranaki take on Waikato in the first round at Yarrow Stadium in New Plymouth.

their land without compromising its cultural and spiritual significance.
AHUPUA’A FISHPONDS AND LO’I (SUNDAY FEATURE) – Sunday October 5 at 9.00 PM
Hawaiian historian and anthropologist Marion Kelly goes on a tour of six islands to see what our modern world can learn
from ancient wisdom, and from those who continue to practice traditional ways today. From taro growers to rock wall
builders, from fishermen to hula masters, this programme offers an intriguing viewpoint on traditional roles in modern
times.
MIHARO (CHILDREN) - Monday October 6 at 4.30 PM
Season premiere! Something to inspire inquiring minds, MIHARO is pacy, colourful and jam-packed with questions and
answers, learning and laughter. The show is designed to educate Maori-speaking children in a delightfully entertaining
way. Primarily targeted at five to eight-year-olds, this weekday educational series aligns its programme content with
school curriculum areas.
NO SWEAT PARENTING – Tuesday October 7 at 8.00 PM
A fun-filled entertainment series that’s all about family. Presented by positive parenting advocate Pio Terei, each half
hour show is packed with comedy sketches, whanau interviews, celebrity guests and light-hearted discussion about the joy
as well as the challenges we all face when bringing up a family. There’s no ‘preaching’ or obvious advice in this show,
but it’s difficult to avoid picking up a tip or two on how to become a better parent while you’re enjoying this
entertaining and authentic series.
KOWHIRI 2008 – TOHEA TE KUPU – Tuesday October 7 and Wednesday October 8 at 8.30 PM
Maori Television kicks off its pre-election coverage with a series of political programmes that assess the intentions
and influences on Maori voters on the General roll and Maori electorates. Co-hosted by NATIVE AFFAIRS presenter Julian
Wilcox and TE KAEA political reporter Tina Wickliffe, the first episode will focus on Labour and its relationship with
Maori followed by a similar analysis of National the following night. The minor parties will be covered the following
Tuesday.
