Absolut® Inspires Otis Frizzell To ‘Absolut Create’
Leading edge artist creates visionary art work which in turn inspires five new and unique ABSOLUT® cocktails. ABSOLUT® VODKA, the world’s most iconic spirits brand, today premiers ‘ABSOLUT CREATE’, a collaboration between talented New Zealand artist, Otis Frizzell, and five New Zealand leading edge bars using ABSOLUT® VODKA as inspiration.
The initiative saw ABSOLUT VODKA commission five special art works from Otis Frizzell as the basis for five New Zealand bars to design a special cocktail, in turn inspired by the art work.
These ABSOLUT® cocktails include ‘ABSOLUT Kiwi Passion’ created by Lenin in Auckland, ‘ABSOLUT Frizz’ from Sandwiches in Wellington ,‘ABSOLUT Ch’iki Tiki’ from Christchurch’s
Concrete, ‘ABSOLUT Waipiro’ from Toast in Dunedin, and ‘ABSOLUT Delight’ from Queenstown’s Boiler Room. Otis Frizzell said ABSOLUT VODKA had inspired many international renowned artists and his artwork was inspired by the 1950’s Hawaiian cocktail aesthetic, based on the classic Tiki.
“My version is contemporised with influences from Maori and Easter Island-style Tiki’s. It’s broken down and stylized – a European take on a Hawaiian icon with a Maori influence, and given a contemporary twist.
The technique I use draws from ‘pin-striping’, which is used to customize cars, where a fundamental shape is broken down and modernised,” said Frizzell. Debbie Egerton, Group Brand Manager at Maxxium (NZ) Limited, which manages ABSOLUT in
New Zealand, said this collaboration built further on the ABSOLUT brand.
“We are a talented and creative community and it has been exciting to see one of New Zealand’s leading artists inspire our leading edge bars. As a result, consumers will be able to experience their visions, expressed through five new and unique ABSOLUT CREATE cocktails.”
